Abstract

Around 70% of the object of historical, artistic or ethno-anthropological importance are either made from or contain as a support organic materials. These may be eithe rof plant origin (wood, paper, or linen and cotton fabrics) or from animals (leather, wool, and silk are examples). These cultural artefacts are frequently subjet to deterioration, a significant cause of this is the activity of many insect species, of particular importance is termite damage. Direct action against these agents is often insufficient to protect these object adequately therefore it is necesary to emploi various strategies that take into account the specific nature of the pest considered and the artifact to be protected, thus making the artifact inhospitable as a habitate or site of reproduction to xilopfagous insects.
