Celebrando i 150 anni ricorderemo sudditi diventati cittadini grazie alla Costituzione del “Quarantotto”. Parleremo di antenati, nonni, bisnonni, trisnonni che, già prima dell’Unità, col loro lavoro e sacrificio, esercitando pochi diritti e tanti doveri, hanno fatto grande l’Italia nel Mondo, lasciando a noi, loro discendenti, un’eredità che è un delitto disperdere. Dimostreremo che ogni famiglia ha la sua storia, poche però sanno raccontarla. Narreremo vicende ricorrendo a Cesare Alfieri di Sostegno, agricoltore, uomo politico, ministro dell’istruzione, primo ministro del Regno di Sardegna, estensore e firmatario dello Statuto Albertino, morto a Firenze nel 1869 e sepolto tra le colline della valle del Tanaro, tra Alba e Asti. Parleremo della sua amicizia con Camillo Benso di Cavour, dei loro legami famigliari, degli intrecci con la Toscana, di incontri con personalità che facevano capo all’Accademia dei Georgofili e di eredi del Tessitore trasferiti a Firenze, dove fonderanno l’istituto di scienze sociali “Cesare Alfieri”, la famosa università “Alfieriana”. Ricordando la terra dei nostri padri riandiamo con la memoria alle risorse naturali, agricole, enogastronomiche, tecniche, infrastrutturali e culturali che hanno consentito l’avvio di un processo di sviluppo inserito in un contesto mondiale che vedeva l’Italia ripartita in piccoli staterelli e l’Europa divisa in Imperi.
Celebrating the 150th anniversary unification of Italy, we will remember subjects who became citizens thanks to the Constitution of 1948. We will talk about ancestors, grandparents and great grandparents who, long before the Italian unification, made Italy great, worldwide, by their work, even as they enjoyed very few rights and accepted many duties, leaving us, their descendants, a heritage that it would be a crime to waste. We will demonstrate that each and every family has its history although few of them are able to tell it. We will recall the events regarding Cesare Alfieri di Sostegno, farmer, politician, Ministrer of Education, First Minister of the Kingdom of Sardinia, extensor and signatory of the Albertine Statute, who died in Florence in 1869 and was buried in the hills of the Tanaro Valley, between Asti and Alba. We will speak of his friendship with Camillo Benso di Cavour, their family relationships. The links with Tuscany, the meetings with personalities who headed the Georgofili Academy, and of the heirs of the “Tessitore” who moved to Florence, where they founded the Institute of Social Sciences “Cesare Alfieri”, the famous “Alfierian” university. As we remember the land of our ancestors, we will turn to the natural, agricultural, wine, food, technical, infrastructural, and cultural resources which brought about a process of development in a global context in which Italy appeared divided in small states in a Europe divided in Empires.
