Abstract

Among the Georgofili Academy members that were and still are of greater example and prestige stand out Emanuele Repetti. With exceptional diligence he devoted big part of his life to the study of the fabulous world of the nature and to the examination of its exploitation in the historical panorama of the human activities. The paper illustrates as the mind of the Repetti, so devoted to historical, economic and naturalistic problems had found in the Academy matters for satisfying every wishes. He carried out accurate studies following these criterions, perfectly coherent to the Georgofili thought, that drove him in many jobs and especially in the layout of his big work, the Dictionary. Now days it is extremely difficult to imagine how someone could be able to carry out for whole Tuscany an abridged edition so detailed and rich of historical news, naturalistic, agronomic, demographic, etc. To that times electronic facilities didn’t exist and therefore not only a lot of attention, a lot of patience and a lot of time was needed; but it was necessary above all to have a rational mind able to order with correct equilibrium the picked informations, to give a position to them and to coordinate her in relationship to others of near areas. Repetti, in short, not only was full of zeal for academic offices of Secretary of the Acts and Librarian, but in the academic sphere he developed studies of great weight and also he wanted to write his name as “Ordinario” member on the title-page of the Dictionary, as if this in some way of the Academy made part.
